Our History

The call of the crystal

Initially, therapists Sylvie Dugal and Gilles Gauvin specialized in pain, stress, and anxiety management. Eager to deepen their practice, they sought to amplify the benefits of their approaches by integrating the therapeutic power of sound. This led them to research the most effective instruments in the field. Their exploration would soon reveal a truth that would change everything.

One morning, Gilles woke up with a powerful inner calling: they absolutely had to turn toward crystal bowls. Overwhelmed with enthusiasm, he woke Sylvie and told her they had to go at Crystal Mine immediately. While putting on his clothes, he turned to her and exclaimed, "Let's go!"

Upon their arrival at Crystal Mine in Bonsecours, the owners (Gaudry and Pauline) welcomed them with surprising enthusiasm, revealing that a collection of harmonized bowls, designed to create perfect chords, had been waiting for them for a decade.

An Ascent Beyond Expectations

The first concerts took place in the intimate setting of their apartment living room in Quebec City. Word of mouth spread quickly: for every performance, the ten available seats were systematically filled. One evening, after a show, a man remained seated, his face filled with emotion, long after the other spectators had departed. Concerned, Gilles asked him if everything was alright. Deeply moved, the man replied: "I have traveled the entire world in search of the best crystal bowl concerts, and it was two minutes from my home that I found the very best." The growing popularity of these experiences led to invitations from prestigious venues such as the Monastère des Augustines and Gare Viger.

Faced with this rising popularity, it became clear that a name was needed. The choice fell on Cristal Momentum. The word "Cristal" (Crystal) naturally refers to the crystal bowls themselves, but it also evokes purity, clarity, and resonance—essential qualities sought during the concerts. As for the term "Momentum," of Latin origin, it designates an energy in motion, an impulse. It suggests a force and a dynamic capable of bringing about change and shifting a situation, even within a short span of time.

From instrument to consciousness

Over time, our collection of instruments has grown, further enhancing the benefits of our practices. With each new acquisition, we take rigorous care to ensure that the frequency of the note emitted exactly matches those of the instruments of the same note already in our possession. This meticulous selection allows for a perfect layering, creating a pure unison.

The purpose of this precision is to generate the acoustic phenomenon of binaural beats through subtle vibrational shifts. This process acts as a direct physical stimulus on the brain, fostering synchronization between the two hemispheres so they work in total synergy. This harmonization allows for faster access to peaceful states of consciousness and deep inner coherence.

Remarkably, the majority of these instruments found their way to us through extraordinary synchronicities. For instance, the largest bowl in our collection—an exceptional piece with only five counterparts in the world—was gifted to us by a traveling couple who used it during sound sessions in the heart of various pyramids.

Cristal Momentum’s sound space

As the collection grew, organizing nomadic concerts became increasingly laborious. The idea of having our own concert hall then became an obvious necessity. It was in Saint-Sauveur, in a small space across from the church, that our first venue was born. With a capacity of fifteen people, word-of-mouth once again worked its magic, and seats were systematically filled. Faced with the reality that the room had quickly become too small to meet demand, fate once again stepped in: two new spaces became available, allowing us to expand the hall into the one we know today.

Our collection recently expanded with the addition of a vibraphone similar to the one used by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM). Furthermore, a custom-built harp and Baschet Crystal have joined our ensemble, both specifically designed to maximize the production of binaural sounds. The Cristal Momentum journey reaches a new milestone with the arrival of Patrice Gauvin, head of the Monroe Institute in Quebec, whose collaboration will drive further innovation and enrich the quality of the experiences we offer.
